This year’s National Day was celebrated with an added dose of zest and fanfare, thanks to the launch of JPOT’s new soup base that has gotten our hotpot lovers all sizzled up in delight! JPOT has upped the ante on “Hotpot Singapore Style” with its newest Chilli Crab soup base; a unique twist on Singapore’s National Dish, the iconic Chilli Crab! There has never truly been anything on the market that could emulate the tangy, sweet, and mildly-spicy flavor of JUMBO’s award-winning Chilli Crab dish – until now!

With the new Chilli Crab soup base joining the likes of Fish Head Soup, Laksa and other uniquely Singaporean flavours, dining at JPOT has become so much more than a regular meal for families and friends. What JPOT offers, instead, is an exciting, innovative and customizable dining experience that simultaneously promises not to compromise on food quality. How so, you ask?

The Chilli Crab soup base comes served alongside a portion of fresh live crab, an egg and a shotglass of cornstarch. To begin, you are encouraged to enhance the flavour of the soup base by simmering the live crab in the broth for five minutes, using the hourglass timer provided. Once the umami essence of the crab has thoroughly infused into the soup, proceed to cook and savour your preferred ala-carte ingredients as per usual (we highly recommend something from our selection of seafood to complement the sweetness)!
The first part of this meal is already so satisfying it might be easy to get carried away – but popular foodie and influencer, Eleanor Tay, echoes our own sentiments with this handy tip: “Leave some tummy space and crab at the end because once you’re ready, the soup base can be transformed into a Chilli Crab Sauce! Yes – thick, gooey, eggy, crab sauce that you can dip your man tous into and slurp up the sauce as you like”.

Indeed, a wholesome Chilli Crab dish awaits! When you are ready, slow the bubbling of the soup down to a low boil, add the cornstarch and a beaten egg, gently mix, and your Chilli Crab soup will be converted into a pot of our famously delectable Chilli Crab sauce, best paired with the complementary crispy deep-fried “man tous” from JUMBO Seafood!

“We wanted to celebrate National Day in a big way, so we decided to introduce one of Singapore’s most iconic dishes as a soup base at JPOT! We first came up with this idea more than a year ago, and the team spent six months researching how to recreate our signature JUMBO Chilli Crab in a soup, so that our customers can enjoy their favourite local dish as a hotpot too. We believe our customers will love having two gastronomic experiences in one meal,” shared Mr Ang Kiam Meng, JUMBO’s Group CEO.

The success of our new Chilli Crab soup base is evident with many diners joining queues at JPOT outlets just to experience and indulge in a Chilli Crab hotpot meal. It has also garnered rave reviews from numerous customers since its debut. To further commemorate National Day – only for the month of August – a “Chilli Crab Set for two” promotion was introduced at a special price of S$52++, served with a Live Crab along with a generous platter of JPOT’s fresh seafood ingredients such as Live Prawns, Sliced Toman Fish, Sliced Squid, Hand-Made Fish Balls, and many more!

“JPOT sets the bar once again, incorporating local flavours like Chilli Crab into one of Singapore’s favourite dishes, steamboat,” said food and lifestyle blogger Yong Wei Kai, who, having been in the Singapore food scene for so long, definitely knows what he’s talking about.
