TRANSFORMING YOUR JPOT SILKY PORRIDGE SOUP BASE INTO CONGEE

Many would describe a dining experience as enjoyable, tantalising, pleasurable, or simply, great. But rarely do we hear someone describe a meal as fun or exciting.

We want our customers to expect (and receive) mouth-watering, quality food when they dine at JPOT; at the same time, we also hope to create a dining experience that’s fun, inspiring them to get innovative and explore new and creative ways to customise and enjoy a hotpot meal. Many of our customers are surprised to discover that there are, in fact, many unconventional tips and tricks that can completely revolutionise their hotpot experience!

One of our best and most well-kept secrets? Transforming a Silky Porridge soup base into a congee dish – in fact, this trick of the trade is our very own CEO Mr Ang Kiam Meng’s favourite way to enjoy his hotpot! The Silky Porridge soup base arrives at the table in its original and more liquefied form, but often finds itself thickening towards its own end, taking on an increasingly viscous texture as the meal progresses. Many might then choose to abandon their leftovers in the thickened soup, and call it a day – not realising that the delicious base, having absorbed the rich flavours of various ingredients thrown in over the course of the meal, could actually be the best part.

Rather than dismissing the remaining soup, this thickened base actually provides the perfect canvas to turn the once-liquid soup into a silky smooth congee, simply by adding certain key ingredients to the mix.

Like Mr Ang himself, some may prefer their congee simple. If so, all you need to do is add an egg, topped with a dash of sesame oil, spring onion and coriander from our JPOT condiments bar – et voila! Your very own comforting bowl of congee is ready!

Chef's Tip

Instead of pairing your congee with You Tiao, try having it with our JPOT Fried Beancurd Skin instead – a winning combo recommended by our chefs!

"This is really innovative, I’ve not encountered any other hotpot restaurant with such a concept. It [has] just the right soft texture and smooth consistency! "

Ultimately, a JPOT experience is one that we hope our customers will not only enjoy, but also share the fun and merriment with family and friends – a place where creativity roams and people go home with fond memories. With so many different possibilities of customization, our seafood congee trick is just one of the many ways to enjoy your JPOT hotpot dining experience!

Chef's Tip

If you prefer to have your porridge “Teochew Muay” style, try adding a bowl of steamed rice directly into the Silky Porridge soup base at the very beginning of your meal. Repeat steps 1-3 as per normal, and enjoy!
